Oh the pressure!!
FRANCESCA LIBERATORE FALL 2017
I live in Littleton, CO. Being from such a seemingly small place. Compared to NYC anyway. I have always wanted to travel and do hair in “the city”. 2015 was the first opportunity I had to do a show…paid $1500, did one show. Which was epic by the way. Needless to say, I was hooked. NYFW was my drug.
In February 2017, on a team for ‘The Beauty underground’. Picture it, I have two seasons under my belt. I’m a pro at this point, obviously.
Francesca Liberatore. I mean this woman is not only an award-wining Italian designer, each one of the collections she creates is curated with a purpose. For fall 2017, this was no exception. She was inspired by an exhibit about the ‘Declaration of Independence’.
Liberatore included long coats, jumpsuits, chokers, and powerful words lining the pieces. “Freedom Of Speech”.
The team’s approach for hair was a moment in my career I will never forget.
A simple center part, low ponytail, and wet but dry texture along the back of the head. This seems on the surface like an easy approach. When you look at a line of models, they are all individually beautiful. Some have a fringe, thick hair, fine hair, etc. The point of a "look” is to make it seem as though the hair was done with one hand. The rush you get having a short amount of time to complete 50-100 models is so exhilarating!
Often these women have to get dressed, hair, makeup, nails, and are expected to do this for an entire week. Seven plus days of this. Now I know most adore this experience. The modeling community is strong and supportive of each other. It’s brilliant.
During this show, while making a model with a fringe look like all the rest ( which came out lovely in this photo) I overheard another model talking about taking the Barr Exam, while another model next to her pumped milk for her five-month old, and another model said she hadn’t slept for 13 hours because she had a shift at Presbyterian Queens.
I mean these women! So much pressure on them, and yet they thrive. I was not shocked, I was not surprised, I love a badass chick that handles her self with such poise. I felt privileged to be around these accomplished women. From this point on not only do I treat everyone, I mean everyone with respect. Backstage, front of the house, big, small, little, tall.
You never know fully someone else’s life. You never know what type of pressure they are under at home. You should always treat everyone with respect. Because as soon as you sleep on them…. they will be a Covergirl with her Masters…touching hearts and taking names. I see you ladies, and I work hard every day. So I can sit with you.
Girl Power.
